Thunderburg – Motorcycle drive in to Miamisburg Ohio with lots of pictures

Today I thought I would stop by Thunderburg on July 9th, 2011. Of course I brought my camera and took some pictures of the interesting people and machines. Here are just a few of the highlighs. Additional photographs from my walk can be seen and purchased here on my smugmug account.

Peter DeMott Photography top rated photographer in Dayton

It was a pleasant surprise to find Peter DeMott Photography on a web site called Thumbtack. The heading was Top Rated Photographers in Dayton and as of today it puts my listing as #5. This is just one place that brings together references for various types of businesses.

Thumbtack Peter DeMott Photography top rated photographer in Dayton

There are so many places that people can comment on your quality of work and service that it is easy for people to find out more about any business. But, as important as hearing good things is seeing good things. What I mean by that is when you are looking for a photographer it is very important that you connect with the style of work the photographer does.

http://www.thumbtack.com/oh/dayton/photographer/

Enjoying the style and work of a photographer is far more important than price or their rating on one web site or another. I don’t figure that my prices would be considered high for professional quality work, but you sometimes see people making choices purely based on price which I see as a grand mistake. Consider how long you will be enjoying or not enjoying a portrait on the wall of your home, or an coffee table book of portraits from your session.

How much difference does $100 or $200 difference in price make over 10-20 years. Let’s consider that. If you make a choice about a photographer based on a $200 difference in price divided by 20 years at 12 months per year that means you may have chosen a better photographer for about 80¢ per month or you may have chosen a photographer whose work you did not like and will be regretting your choice for 20 years for a difference of 80¢ per month.

Right here on the site you can also click on the menu item “Testimonials” for some ideas about how people feel about my work.

Testimonials can be found here

If you like my work and style, I encourage you to share my web site and also my facebook page with your friends. I frequently post images from sessions on my facebook business page Peter DeMott Photography and it is easy to LIKE the page and share what’s going on with your friends. Horse portraits and horse and rider portraits are also frequent on my site because of my specialty in that area.

If you do a search for Ohio Equine Photographer you will likely see my web site listed number one  or two on the page. A friend, Sally Shaffer, and I toggle back and forth between the top two listings (that is something that can change from day to day). She does lovely work as do many other equine photographers listed on page one of the search results. Of course locality can also be important with Sally being in Columbus and with me being here in South West Ohio (near Dayton). It is easier for me to get to farms and stables around Dayton and Cincinnati for example. Also, some of the photographers listed specialize in stock photography, show photography and other areas whereas I enjoy my horse and rider portrait work the most.

Thanks Dayton for rating me as one of Dayton’s top photographers. I appreciate any comments and connections that come my way.

Your help selecting the best portraits of 2010 at Peter DeMott Photography

Going through some of the portraits of 2010 was fun. To make it fun for you too, I would like your help me in selecting from some of my sessions, the best portrait of year. These are in no particular order and you can only vote one time for up to 5 different portraits, but there is nothing that keeps you from telling your friends to vote too.

You see, I have decided that after there have been at least 500 votes and on March 1st of 2011, I will award the person in the winning image with a 16×24 canvas print of the portrait of their choice from their session in 2010. I had great fun this past year meeting new people and having portrait sessions of many kinds. Throughout the spring and summer is a great time for outdoor, on location portraits of all kinds. These images are horse and rider portraits, senior student portraits, new born baby portraits with parents, and more. Most were taken in the Dayton, Ohio area, but several of the horse and rider portraits were taken at Endurance rides throughout the region including Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, and even West Virginia.

If you know someone in this fun little contest, please send them a link to this page so that they can vote for their image. Let’s have some fun. Each person may select up to 5 portraits to vote on. You cannot vote 5 times for the same portrait. Only one voting session is allowed per computer.

There is a title caption small under each portrait (generic with no names). These match the selection options at the bottom of this post. After you vote you can see the current totals.

Lovely senior portrait session with Jennifer McElveen senior at Miamisburg High School

As we were progressing through various places and posses my wife asked Jennifer what was next, where was she headed after high school? Jennifer wants to go to college at the University of Cincinnati. We suggested that she could then hang out with Kile and Evan who are both going to school in Cincinnati, Evan at Xavier University and not too far away, Kile at the University of Cincinnati. Jennifer wants to major in pre-med. Wow, that is exciting.

Jennifer had three changes of clothes. We started with her relaxed and casual look. Each look was just lovely. Jennifer has a great smile and a wonderful personality. We walked around the park finding senior pictures ideas for girls. I’m looking forward to doing more senior portrait sessions with Miamisburg students. I’m hoping that Jennifer’s friends will see her senior pictures here and click on the link to her gallery as well as explore my web site to see other examples of my work.

I loved her more formal looking outfit too.

I think this look over the shoulder pose turned out just lovely, but like I said, Jennifer has a lovely smile and personality and it just comes out through these portraits. I also know what this looks like large and her eyes look amazing in this girl senior portrait pose.

Best friend senior portrait session, bring a friend to your session and have senior pictures to cherish for a lifetime

Liz saw my senior portraits of Evan and Kyle, best friends since they were 5 years old (both their moms had been friends since high school). I had a great time with Evan and Kyle. Liz and Amanda were fun to create portraits for as well. Liz goes to Miamisburg High School and is on the swim team.

Of course for Liz’s mom, Marita, the pictures of Liz by herself are the ones that relatives and friends of the family would want most. But, for Liz, I am certain that some of the portraits we composed with her best friend Amanda will be cherished for a lifetime as well. What a great thing when you realize that in many cases best friends will be going off to different colleges in different cities.

Here are just a few of the portraits from Liz’s senior session.

Lifestyle senior portraits in Kettering, Oakwood, Centerville, Beavercreek….and more

One thing about the internet is that you cannot tell exactly where your visitor traffic is coming from. I can see that people are interested in new ideas for their senior portrait sessions, but I cannot tell if those are students from California or New York. I can just hope that if those students are looking for senior portraits with their horse or how about a young lady who wants her senior portraits with her dad’s hotrod or senior portraits on the farm or with their best friend, then the students in my area are also interested in those things and are also visiting this web site.

So if you want a relaxed on-location senior portrait session and you live in Oakwood, Kettering, Centerville, Beavercreek, Washington Township, Springboro, Middletown, Fairborn, Miamisburg, Germantown, Huber Heights, Troy, Tipp City, or any of the many other towns and burgs surrounding the greater Dayton area, then I am hoping that you are stopping by my web site to see a different sort of senior portrait session.

My photography has an enduring quality and not too trendy. Trendy is fun, but it may not be you and trends tend to pass on by. If I can capture something special about you and your way of being and the things or people that are important to you, that can last a lifetime. I like my portraits to look nice hanging in the family homestead for many years not just while the trend is hot. I like my clients to invest in canvas wall portraits and professional quality photo books or various framed prints from their sessions.

That’s not to say that I would not be up for some urban/graffiti or other interesting stuff, but I want it to be about you, not because it is a trend. So give me a call and tell me about your ideas and lets work something out. Peter DeMott Photography at (937) 478-6222 in SW Ohio.

Jen and Ken Damon’s Family Portrait Session at their home in Miamisburg

We were all set to meet at the Cox Arboretum for their family portrait session when we realized that there was a garlic festival going on so it would have been a major hassle to get into the park. My wife suggested that we consider doing the session at their home in Miamisburg. Last spring they had beautiful new paver walk and patio along with landscaping done at their home.

When I arrived I checked things out and set up some chairs by their front porch. As you can see it worked out wonderfully and Jen said later that she felt even better that it was at their home. It gives it a very personal feel. This is a one-of-a-kind piece of art that they will cherish for years to come. Ken Damon is the pastor of a Baptist church in Oakwood. Jennifer is a 5th grade teacher at Mark Twain School in Miamisburg, Ohio.

The other thing I found is that the love in this very close family just shines through. Posing was easy and relaxed and everyone had a nice time, even Kyle and Joel who very seldom have their pictures taken. Still hoping to arrange for Kyle’s senior portraits. He wants to wear the crown from being elected the king of the homecoming court at Miamisburg High School. Sure we can do that for part of the session.
