Wendy McGlaun is a wellness educator with Juice Plus and a fellow member of Rainmakers networking here in the Dayton area. She needed some portraits for her business and also wanted some of her and her husband Jeff.
After talking a couple of times, we decided that the session should be at their beautiful home in Centerville. The session went very well and her family voted on which images she should use. Here are a couple of the portraits from the session.

Up close and personal portraits
Actually, I have a session lined up for Saturday morning so I was checking out some of my lighting equipment and asked my wife Patty to help me out. We took some portraits until I was happy with the lights then I processed a couple of the images and decided to post them here.

Touching image taken with iPhone
There is a book out about the BEST CAMERA, that being the camera that you have with you at the time. In this case the book and web site are about the iPhone as your best camera. That is if it is the only camera you have with you. Just knowing that there is a book and web site about the BEST CAMERA has opened my eyes to being ready and willing to use my iPhone more often.
This has inspired me to take videos and images with my iPhone. Just recently, I was at my mother in-laws home. She was dying of lung cancer and they had moved her from the hospital to her home under the guidance of Hospice. Patty had been there since Thursday and my boys had arrived Saturday. My daughter and I were able to arrive on Sunday.
My wife sat at Donna’s bedside reading Bible passages to her, then I saw this. I did not want to go out to the car and bring in my big professional camera as it would seem very inappropriate, but walking up behind Patty I took this image with my iPhone. I showed it to her and it brought tears to her eyes. Later she asked me to share it on facebook. Others who have seen it, have said that even though they did not know Donna, that the photograph brought tears to there eyes as well.
I’m sure that when I have a print made of this for Patty, that she will cherish it.
Sharing talent, putting music together with photography at Fairhaven Church in Dayton Ohio
I’m really pleased with some pictures that I took this morning at my church. I have gone to the pastoral staff and volunteered my “talent” in photography for anything church related as one way of giving back. Sometimes if there is something special going on, I take pictures. Children’s choir, Christmas, Easter, Palm Sunday etc. Gradually some of the pictures migrate to the church web site and printed materials.

Always in learning mode to be a better photographer at the PPSO monthly meeting
Learning together to serve our customers better
Tonight I spent from about 5:30pm to about 9:45pm with a great bunch of professional photographers at the monthly PPSO (Professional Photographers of SW Ohio) meeting. Each first monday we have some time together having diner together, then we have a speaker present something relevant to us as business people and photographers.
Sandra and Shad Reed Present “workflow solutions” from their experience as wedding photographers
Today Sandra and Shad Reed spent the evening sharing their “work flow” which means how they automate and at the same time customize every image from the 35-40 weddings they do each year. Shad has a background in engineering so creating processes was right down his alley. But, not only do they photograph 30-40 weddings each year, but the wedding party gets to see a slide show at the reception of the wedding day pictures AND they deliver a complete album proof to the newlyweds within two weeks of each wedding they do.
What I like with this group is their openness and willingness to share and learn together. This is just a little shot from my point and shoot canon camera at a low shutter speed.
Shad and Sandra played off each other quite well to keep us entertained and learning throughout the entire seminar as you can see from the expressions of the people here. Earlier we had a small print competition which is rather informal offering both comments about what we liked about images shared and what we think would improve the images. My own image was a second place this month (out of 5 entries).

If you are a professional photographer you are welcome to come visit the group. I think that you will find a great place to learn and grow. For more information visit the PPSO eNewsletter where the topic, location, date and time for each meeting is announced. There is a picnic and a full day seminar planned each year, but most meetings are the first Monday of each month, so plan to have an evening learning and growing. Bring enough to pay for your diner and you are welcome to come for a visit to get an idea of what it’s all about.
February meeting was fun too
Last month we had some lighting demonstrations. Yes, I was one of the “models”, but the other ones were much more pretty for sure. This is the first line from the PPSO eNewsletter regarding the February meeting: “If you missed Monday’s monthly meeting with Lew Everling, you missed one heck of a lighting program.”
